First light at Warminster - a photo on Flickriver

59101 ‘Village of Whatley’ heads south away from Warminster at 0620 on a July morning with 7o12, the 0605 Westbury to Woking service.

The military town of Warminster is visible in the middle distance. The sheds of Babcock's Land Training Force site are visible in the middle distance with Battlesbury Barracks, the home of the 1st Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment visible between the sheds and the trees that mark the edge of the town. To the left of the Babcock's site is Waterloo Lines, another army installation which includes a 'sizeable portion' of the Headquarters Field Army as well as a number of specialist army training schools.

This is the last of four images I have published to Flickr taken in this immediate area. The first ( flic.kr/p/2hGGJxX ) was taken minutes before this one, facing in the opposite direction (indeed, the tail of that train is just visible behind the stone hoppers in this image).

The class 59/1 in mustard yellow livery (flic.kr/p/2hHwWPn ) was captured from the road bridge just off frame to the left of this image - notice how the cottage prominent in both images has doubled in size since the 1990s!
