The Nation's loss, my gain - a photo on Flickriver

            37421 stands at Kyle of Lochalsh on the evening of 18th July 1989 waiting to work the following mornings 0702 to Dingwall.

This was the evening after my previous shot ( flic.kr/p/2dWBM2J ), with the same locomotive and same coaches. The train had not moved for the last 24 hours:

18th July 1989 was one of several national one-day rail strikes that occurred over that summer, instigated by the National Union of Railwaymen over pay and collective bargaining.

While hundreds of thousands of passengers faced disruption, I was enjoying a day of full sun, safe in the knowledge that when I returned to Kyle this view would be waiting for me!
