GOLDEN-HEADED QUETZAL Male Pharomachrus auriceps with a katydid at the nest. This Golden-headed Quetzal male has arrived at its nest hole with a katydid in its bill. The male and female Golden-headed Quetzal have been observed carrying small tree frogs, katydids and aguacatillo fruits Persea caerulea Lauaceae to the nest to feed their nestlings. The nest is in a hole on the side of a dead tree trunk in a field adjacent to forest on a mountainside close to Mindo, Ecuador. This photo is from the morning of August 16, 2013.

The Golden-headed Quetzal is a species with a fairly extensive geographical range, being found from southern Panama southward to Bolivia.

Un macho del Quetzal Cabecidorado Pharomachrus auriceps ha llegado a su nido con un katydid en su pico. Va a presentar el insecto a un pichón dentro del nido. Su nido está ubicado en una cavidad en un tronco seco en un campo cerca de bosque en la falda de una montaña no muy lejos de Mindo, Ecuador. La foto se sacó el 16 de agosto de 2013.
