APLOMADO FALCON Falco femoralis. An Aplomado Falcon is perching on a mossy boulder and looking downslope in the Yanacocha Reserve on the upper northwestern slopes of Volcán Pichincha to the west of Quito in northwestern Ecuador at 10:05 AM on the foggy morning of May 31, 2023.

The Aplomado Falcon is rare at Yanacocha. This falcon was perched quite close.

The Aplomado Falcon is a member of the family Falconidae and is found from the extreme southwestern United States (very rare) to southern Argentina.
