BLACK-FACED IBIS Theristicus melanopis. This Black-faced Ibis is flying low above the grassy paramo at Volcán Antisana east of Quito in northern Ecuador at 2:54 PM on January 28, 2017.

The Black-faced Ibis is a rare bird in Ecuador and Volcán Antisana is the best place to look for it.

This site, at an altitude of about 4,000 meters [13,123 feet], is near the imposing snow and ice covered Antisana volcanic cone.

The Black-faced Ibis is a member of the family Threskiornithidae and is found in the paramo of southwestern Colombia and Ecuador. Its range extends south to Argentina and Chile.
