The Pale-mandibled Araçari may best be treated as a subspecies of the COLLARED ARAÇARI Pteroglossus torquatus erythropygius. Treatment as a subspecies is followed by the Clements Checklist www.birds.cornell.edu/clementschecklist and by the South American Classification Committee of the AOU www.museum.lsu.edu/~Remsen/SACCBaseline05.htm.
