Splash - a photo on Flickriver

Splash

            The World War I Memorial is the newest NPS addition to the D.C. area.  It's located on what was Pershing Park at the corners of 15th Street NW & Pennsylvania Avenue NW.  (It's bounded by the Presidents Park/White House Visitor Center on the south, the Presidents Park on the west, the Treasury Building on the northwest, and the Willard Hotel directly north.)

The memorial isn't complete yet, though quite close.  (They made amazing progress over the last 5 months; this looked like a big mud pit about 5 months ago.)  The main statue/sculpture isn't complete yet as they are $1.4 million short on funding.  It's represented by the white canvas with an artist's rendering of the sculpture at the moment (or at least on opening weekend).  The memorial opened on 16 April 2021 and these images are from the 17th.

In general, it's a bit understated, yet very tasteful and easy to visit if you happen to be in downtown Washington, D.C.
