The Paramount Theatre is a live theatre venue/movie theatre. Built in 1915, the classical revival style structure designed by John Eberson was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. In the Paramount's 117-year history, it has played host to a wide variety of acts ranging from vaudeville, musicals, legitimate theater, and movies. Today the Paramount is one of only 20 theaters left in the entire country that is over 100 years old and still in use as a venue.

Next door to the Paramount is the Art Deco-style State Theatre which opened on Christmas Day 1935 with “The Bride Comes Home”, a comedy with Claudette Colbert and Fred MacMurray. The theater was a conversion of an existing building and was designed by architect W. Scott Dunne. It was the first theater in Austin built specifically to show motion pictures.

Since 2000 both the Paramount and State theaters have been jointly operated under the Austin Theatre Alliance (ATA). The ATA produces the Moontower Comedy Festival, one of the largest comedy festivals in the nation; hosts the star-studded world premieres of SXSW, Austin Film Festival, and beyond. And the State Theatre is now officially known as the Stateside at the Paramount Theatre.
