Mingo Creek Greenway, Knightdale NC - a photo on Flickriver

            The Mingo Creek Greenway spans 2.5 miles through the town of Knightdale, NC. It was designed by Stewart, Inc. and was granted approval as a multi-use greenway trail that includes 3,600 feet of boardwalk and asphalt paving as well. It is a CAMPO/NCDOT/federally funded project. It was opened as a universally accessible greenway August 2014, linking the Mingo Creek Greenway to the Neuse River Greenway and connecting Knightdale, NC residents to more than 30 miles of paved greenway walking trails in and around Raleigh, NC. It was also designed and has been touted by Town of Knightdale Government Officials as a greenway trail designed and constructed for recreational pedestrian use and as a pedestrian alternative to vehicular routes within a transportation system.

On 12/18/17, approximately 1/4 mile section of the asphalt paved Mingo Creek Greenway was closed per signs on the greenway, as well as a social media town posting and a detour created with chunks of trees and shards of branches, which they call "mulch". This detour has now made that portion of the greenway inaccessible to residents that have mobility issues, ie. residents that use wheelchairs, canes and walkers to get around. This detour will prohibit those with mobility issues from taking advantage of access to the Neuse River Greenway and the enjoyment of the many miles of trees, river views, wildlife, picnic areas and gazebos for gatherings with other citizens.
 
On 12/13/17, Knightdale Public Information Officer Jonas Silver disseminated via social media a press release titled "Greenway Detour Takes Effect December 18th” indicating, "skateboards, rollers skates, and some bicycles may be unsafe for use on the "mulch". 

They made it unsafe, then leave it open for residents to access it.
