All-abord for Alvord - a photo on Flickriver

            I have to say, the family has a new favorite place to camp in Oregon.  There is a fun sense of freedom when there is nothing around you at all.  The dog got to run and run off leash, that always makes for a happy dog.  The boy played baseball in the expanse, the girl enjoyed light painting at night.    

I have already posted a few images from Alvord, but I have been looking forward to getting this one up.  Its an unusual image, which is why I like it.  

This was shot at moon-rise, that's the moon in the back there.  It took on an odd color from the haze that hangs low.  I actually processed a version of this image with the moon details painted in from a darker exposure, but I did not like the way it looked.  This version looked cool because it has a sun-like look.  The clouds above were moving fast and they caught the light from the moon.  The moonlight on the playa floor looked otherworldly.  The family was actually in the tent sleeping, but I told them they had to leave the light on.  Soooo mean.  I know.  But I needed the glow inside, sorry.  It did not seem to bother them though, all passed out from exploring the desert.  Even shooting this with the family just feet away felt like I was the only person in the world.  It was an odd feeling, though there was a rave that went on all night on the other side of the playa, but that incessant beat only amplified the unique sensation of isolation.  You could not hear people, only the beat.  Anoying, but I can't exactly complain to the management.    

This is a two shot composite to tame the highlights in the tent.
