Rally Ford Escort and the Water Splash

            What a splash!  Photo of Car 42 (a rear-wheel drive Mk 1 Ford Escort RS with a 1998cc engine) driven by David Sutherland from Clitheroe & District Motor Club, with Ben Calvert as Navigator from the same club on Special Stage 3 of the Neil Howard Memorial Stages Rally at Oulton Park on Saturday 8th November 2014.

This was the first year the organisers (Bolton-le-Moors Club) had added a water splash to this up and coming event and how the spectators and the media photographers loved it with some excellent photos.  The media were a bit apprehensive at first, not knowing how far and in what direction the water would fly as well as what speed the cars would go through the water splash so they kept their distance.  Also, there was concern as to what control the drivers would have of the car as they exited the water splash.  It soon settled down though and the photographers moved closer and closer as confidence grew.  Some drivers took it extermely carefully, and at the other extreme, they 'went for it' with some suffering some minor bodywork damage.  Only one car had to be pushed away from the water splash by the quick acting Marshalls and they were on their way again under their own power after a few minutes.
