FACHADA DEL PUERTO DE LA ROCHELLE - HARBOUR FRONT OF LA ROCHELLE

La Rochelle for me, was nothing else than a city stop and recovery forces as the enormous distance between the Brittany and Barcelona prevented me do it in one day. So, looking at the map we decided that La Rochelle was more or less halfway.
As it seemed to be an important city, we decided to spend one day and two nights to visit even if it was only minimally.
We went to the hotel that we had prebooked and after check in, we decided to take a walk in the vicinity of the hotel because it was late and we were tired.
OMG what disappointment. This area, near the hotel whose name I forget, was the ugliest and monotonous thing I've seen in my life. I forbear to describe it because I do not want to hurt anyone's feelings.
The next day, we asked at reception where we can go to see something beautiful and cheerful and he pointed the way to the port.
And so we did, we walked a few hundred meters and .... Oh surprise, it was there. A huge and beautiful people crowded harbor, boats, bars, shops of all kinds, restaurants with all eating the same (mussels) a splendid sea and buildings of all ages.
We had just one day and did not leave the port, I think I did about 100 photographs which better as the scene was completely different to what we had seen before. Normandy and Brittany.
This is just one of the walks surrounding around the harbor. In the end it was worth it.
It seems, that to this port arrived goods from the French colonies and eventually was very important for France.

La Rochelle para mi, no fue nada más que una ciudad de parada y recuperación de fuerzas pues la enorme distancia entre La Bretaña y Barcelona me impedía hacerla de un tirón. Por lo que buscando en el mapa decidimos que La Rochelle estaba más o menos a medio camino.
Ya que parecía ser una ciudad importante decidimos pasar un día y dos noches para poder visitarla aunque fuera mínimamente.
Fuimos al hotel que nos habían reservado previamente y después de alojarnos decidimos dar un paseo por las cercanías del hotel pues ya era tarde y estábamos cansados.
Madre mía que decepción. Esta zona, cercana al hotel cuyo nombre no recuerdo, era la cosa más fea y monótona que he visto en mi vida. Me abstengo de describirla porque no quiero herir los sentimientos de nadie.
Al día siguiente, preguntamos en recepción donde podíamos ir para ver algo más bonito y alegre y nos indicó el camino hacia el puerto.
Y así lo hicimos, caminamos unos pocos centenares de metros y.... Oh sorpresa, allí estaba. Un enorme y bellísimo puerto abarrotado de gente, embarcaciones, bares, tiendas de todo tipo, restaurantes con todos comiendo lo mismo (mejillones) un mar esplendido y edificios de todas las épocas.
Solo teníamos un día y no salimos del puerto, creo que hice unas 100 fotografías a cual mejor pues el escenario era completamente distinto a lo que habíamos visto hasta entonces. Normandía y Bretaña.
Este es solo uno de los paseos que circundan todo el puerto. Al final valió la pena.
Según parece, por este puerto llegaban las mercancías procedentes de la colonias francesas y en su momento fue importantísimo para Francia.
