Mouth of Carlin Gill, Howgill Fells near Tebay, Yorkshire Dales National Park, Cumbria, UK

            Seen from the side of the A685 main Kendal-Tebay road at Dillicar, looking at the eastern side of the Lune Gorge from the western side.

The River Lune is hidden by the foreground, but the trees at the left and right of the image line the far bank.  The line of trees rising on the far side of the Lune, passing a ruined field barn of Low Carlingill farm (itself on the left, at the foot of Blease Fell (474 m asl)), is Lummers Gill, the final section of Carlingill Beck before it meets the Lune.  Carlingill Bridge (and my usual parking spot) is at the top of that wooded gorge.

The ridge on the right is Gibbet Hill (its presumed history is self-evident) rising off the right of the image towards Knowles (461 m) and Fell Head (623 m).

Behind is Carlin Gill itself, in which Carlingill Beck enters from the right of the image, beneath Uldale Head (532 m), meeting Weasel Gill and Grains Gill (partly hidden by Blease Fell), then the River Lune.
