Waterhead seen from Loughrigg Fell, near Ambleside, Lake District National Park, Cumbria, UK

            Waterhead, the lakeshore fringe of Ambleside, lies at the northern tip of Windermere, England's largest natural lake; it's 17 km from here to Lakeside, at the southern outlet.

[Do I need to say 'mere' means 'lake' and hence 'Lake Windermere' would be an annoying tautology?  No?  Splendid.]

The large building by the jetty is Ambleside youth hostel; the similarly large building just visible in the next bay is the Low Wood Hotel, whilst the intervening hill is covered by Skelghyll Wood.  The headland between the bays is Holme Crag.

A slight winter mist rather exaggerates the prominence the hills in the background (attractively, though) – at less than 275 m asl in a National Park where dramatic summits may easily exceed at 800m, they aren't really notable, or even named.
That said, this viewpoint at the southern end of Loughrigg Fell is 'only' at ~200 m – the setting's more important than the absolute altitude!
