Q23 stock DM car 4248 - a photo on Flickriver

            The sub-surface trains of Q stock were built by different manufacturers over different years with this driving motor (DM) car being one of the oldest surviving Q stock cars which were built by Gloucester Railway Carriage & Wagon Company in 1923. The Q stock comprised the Q23, Q27, Q35 and Q38 stocks, with all cars from each respective build and year being interchangeable to make up a whole six or seven-car train. Originally built for the District Line, the last of the Q stock was withdrawn from service on the East London Line in 1971, with this DM car 4248 being one of the last cars of Q23 stock in passenger service. Two of these Q23 stock DM cars were converted into single-car G stock to operate on the short shuttle service from Acton Town to South Acton until 1959.
