I'm usually not very much into zooms - especially not APS-C ones - but this SELP18105G just blew me away with it's incredible sharpness wide open, beautiful rendering and amazing SONY G bokeh, so I just had to buy it :-)

I love the fact that zooming and focusing is done internally and this lens doesn't extend towards the long end like the Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4/16~70mm does. Of course the front element doesn't rotate.

Making it only ƒ/4 instead of ƒ/2.8 was imho a good decision by SONY, it keeps this lens quite small, it handles perfectly on the ⍺6000 which it complements very well.

The SELP18105G exhibits a rather strange behavior where its MFD is concerned: from 18mm to 80mm the MFD is 45cm - above 80mm it constantly rises until it is 95cm at 105mm! So you can get nearest to your subject and achieve the best macro results (with or without tubes) at 80mm!

SONY, describing the philosophy behind their G-lenses, says:
G Lenses are exceptional not only for their superior in-focus image quality, but for the beauty of defocused background areas ("bokeh") as well. The "G" title is only accorded to lenses of the highest performance.
I certainly second that!
