LXXXIII Shima Uta (夏川りみ - 島唄) 🎵

A few years ago I worked for a few weeks in Osaka, Japan. I didn't speak japanese and the attitude of the predominant male workers were.. frosty.. towards me. I felt alone and was so homesick. Yet one evening one of the few women I worked with brought me home to her family and translated what they said. And as the evening went on, her young son played a song he wanted me to listen to. It brought me to tears and still does, its so haunting and beautiful and reminds me of the feeling I had back then. Of longing, homesickness and vulnerability.

I apologize if the translation or the phonetic spelling is wrong. I had to search long for the translation and I am not sure it really is accurate. 勘弁してください Also I am aware that this song is in japanese and in okinawan depending on the version.. yet for my untrained western ear, I can't really tell which one it is. But it sounds o beautiful
