Mit 450.000 Besuchern pro Tag und dem Alter das tradionsreichste Volksfest in Deutschland.

Die Düsseldorfer Kirmes ist ähnlich alt, führt die Traditon des ursprünglichen Schützenvereinfestes jedoch nicht fort.
Der Hamburger Dom kann bis ins 14. Jahrhundert zurückblicken, ist aber seit 1880 eine Fusion der drei Märkte und wird von daher auch drei Mal im Jahr gefeiert.
Oktoberfest und Canstadter Vasen haben keine 200 Jahre auf dem Buckel.

Der Rat der Stadt hatte 2019 beratschlagt welches Datum zählen solle.
Als Basisjahre kamen 1441 (578 Jahre, erstmalige Erwähnung des Pferdemarktes), 1444 (575 Jahre, Einweihung der Schlosskapelle) und 1484 (535 Jahre, Marktrecht der Freiheit Crange erstmalig urkundlich erwähnt) in Frage.
Man entschied sich für das Basisjahr 1484.
