Beispiel wie viele Details ein modernes Samrtphone (bei guten Lichtverhältnissen) einfangen kann. Das Bild ist von der Hauptkamera mit dem 48MP Sony IMX586 Sensor. Normalerweise macht die Kamera 12MP Bilder indem sie 4 Pixel vom Quad Bayer Pattern Sensor zusammenfasst. Im RAW/DNG Modus und im 48MP Mode der Kamera App bekommt man aber auch die vollen 48MP.

Example of how many details a modern smartphones can capture (if the lighting conditions are good). This image is from the main camera that uses the Sony IMX586 48MP quad bayer pattern sensor. Regulary the camerta combines 4 of the pixels to a 12MP image. When campturig RAW/DNG and in a special mode in the camera app it is possible to obtain the full 48MP.

The AVIF image compression (in the HEIF container) is a very promising format as it provides good image quality in a very small package and is (in comparison to HEIC) free of any licenses. I hope Flickr as well as Google and Microsoft products will soon have full support for this innovation.

Besides the high compression efficiency the big advantage over JPEG is that a color depth per channel of 10 and even 12 bit is supported.
