The great mystery of the two emergency landing strips in the Amsterdamse Bos revealed...

Emergency Landing Strip: The two runways of the Boschplan Auxiliary Airfield were located on a rectangular site of 10 hectares northeast of the current radar tower.
In the current Amsterdamse Bos on the Koeweide there was the Boschplan Auxiliary Airport with two emergency landing strips for aircraft. At the time, the forest was still under construction and the lanes lay between the meadows. After the Second World War, the forest around it was created. As far as we know, the field has not been used but was available.
When another plane crashed into the Schiphol dyke in the 1930s, it was decided to keep two emergency landing runways free in the Amsterdamse Bos (then called Boschplan). One of those courts has been serving festivals and major events since the summer of 2011. This was once the land where farmer Bosse let his sheep and cows graze.
The two emergency landing strips can still be found in the current Amsterdamse Bos, especially from above (Google Earth). Their purpose is obsolete. The heavy post-war aircraft would sink deep into the soft soil. But the former land of farmer Bosse is now making a new start as a festival site.
