Reason: I was having my break in Brussels. Brussels was more then 3 hours in lockdown when I left the station (background) for this selfie. At that time I did not realize that my return trip to Amsterdam would be my last train journey for the time being. Thalys reduced the number of daily trains to just 1 per day instead of 14.
Lockdown: A lockdown is an emergency protocol that usually prevents people or information from leaving an area. In this case it was to control the spread of the corona virus. Efforts to prevent the virus spreading include also travel restrictions, quarantines, curfews, workplace hazard controls, event postponements and cancellations, and facility closures.
Coronavirus Pandemic: The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic is an ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), a novel coronavirus. The outbreak was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, in December 2019. As of 1 April 2020, more than 910,000 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in over 200 countries and territories, resulting in approximately 45,400 deaths. More than 190,000 people have recovered. Lockdown Brussels: Belgium went into lockdown at 18/03/2020 at noon, with citizens asked to stay at home and limit contact to their closest family. All non-essential shops and open-air markets closed and people were expected to work at home. .
People will be allowed to go out in an emergency or to a supermarket, pharmacies and doctors. Any gatherings and meetings are prohibited.
There will also be a ban on gathering, to which only families will be an exception.
Outdoor sports activities, such as walking, jogging or cycling, are allowed, but if there are two persons involved, the accompanying person must be someone who lives under the same roof. Care should be taken to maintain 1.5m distance from other people.
Public transport will continue, but will also have to guarantee social distancing.
