A common "wet feet" wildflower in western North Carolina. I loved to see it appear in the spring! April 2006. One of my first shots with digital photography--my trusty Olympus SP500UZ.

I see that it is much cultivated and that there are many varieties. Mine was a native wildflower and it moved around yearly, returning dependably in the spring rains. It especially liked a wet spot where the eaves deposited runoff.
