When I arrived in my state capital, Goiânia, I had the honor of photographing the conjoined twins Maria Clara and Maria Eduarda. They are two months old, waiting for the separation surgery at Hospital Materno Infantil (HMI) in Goiânia.
The girls come from a poor family, and they are from Salvador, capital of Bahia state. Maria Clara and Maria Eduarda are fused in the abdomen and share the liver. The pictures were taken in Casa do Interior de Goiás that is kept by Organização das Voluntárias de Goiás (OVG), a place that hosts people for health care purposes.

Ao chegar à capital do meu Estado, Goiânia, tive a honra de fotografar as gêmeas siamesas: Maria Clara e Maria Eduarda, que tem dois meses de vida e aguardam pela cirurgia de separação, que ocorrerá em breve (não existe uma data definida) no ano de 2015 no Hospital Materno Infantil (HMI) em Goiânia.
A família das meninas é de origem pobre, e vem de Salvador capital da Bahia, Maria Clara e Maria Eduarda são unidas pelo abdômen e compartilham o fígado.
As fotos foram realizadas na Casa do Interior de Goiás que é mantida pela Organização das Voluntárias de Goiás (OVG), um local que acolhe pessoas para fins de saúde.

Maria Clara and Maria Eduarda are now 5 months old and are not conjoined twins anymore, thanks to the wonderful job of the Brazilian multiprofessional staff that works in Goiânia, Goiás. I faced a 260-quilometer trip to Goiania again, went on a ride, stayed at my wife’s aunt home, I do not have many financial resources, but this does not preclude that I accomplish my job, my dream. At this time, when I contacted the HMI (Hospital Materno Infantil) press office in Goiânia, I was praised: “Are you the photographer who took the pretty pictures of the conjoined twins?” I said “yes” and smiled, and then I thought, “they loved my job and let the doors open for me to come back”. Then I agreed to go back the next day to take the pictures, after I read on a newspaper that they had left UTI and went to the hospital ward. I went to meet the girls and their family by the public transport, the bus, under an almost unbearable heat, with my wife Tatyane Estrêla, who always accompanies me in every moment of my life. The encounter was amazing, I saw those pretty girls who are now bodily separated, but the symbolic and affective union prevails, they continue united, they are sisters, human beings, generated in the same belly. I also managed to photograph part of the multiprofessional staff that accompanies Maria Clara and Maria Eduardas’s health day-by-day. They are sympathetic people, and carry out a beautiful job. I feel very happy by writing through images the girls’ and their family’s lives. I used photograph that is a universal language to eternize a small universe, and being able to take it to the world is incredible. My job continues, but now it is necessary to grow even more. I seek help and incentive; I believe that with time I will be able to present several cases, not only the cases of conjoined twins. I really want the photographs to get out of the computer screen and go to something touchable, which is a paper of a book and a picture canvas. I need to expose even more my work. These are only the first steps, the first steps…

Maria Clara e Maria Eduarda agora tem 5 meses de idade e não são mais gêmeas siamesas, graças ao incrível trabalho da equipe multiprofissional brasileira, que atua em Goiânia, Goiás.
Enfrentei novamente 260km de viagem até Goiânia, fui de carona, fiquei na casa da tia da minha esposa, não tenho muitos recursos, mas isto de forma alguma impede de realizar o meu trabalho, meu sonho.
Desta vez ao entrar em contato com a assessoria de imprensa do HMI (Hospital Materno Infantil) de Goiânia recebi elogios, “Você que é o fotógrafo que fez as lindas fotos das gêmeas siamesas”? Eu disse sim e sorri, e logo pensei, adoraram o meu trabalho e deixaram as portas abertas para eu retornar. Em seguida marquei no dia seguinte para fazer as fotos, depois que li a matéria em um jornal, e que já haviam saído da UTI e indo para a enfermaria.
Fui ao encontro das meninas e de sua família, de transporte público, ônibus, num calor quase insuportável, juntamente com a minha esposa Tatyane Estrêla, que sempre me acompanha em todos os momentos da minha vida.
O encontro foi incrível, vi aquelas lindas meninas que agora estão separadas corporalmente, mas a união simbólica e afetiva prevalece, continuam unidas, são irmãs, gêmeas, seres gerados na mesma barriga.
Consegui também fotografar parte da equipe multiprofissional que acompanha a saúde e o dia-a-dia de Maria Clara e Maria Eduarda, são pessoas simpáticas, e fazem um lindo trabalho, fico muito feliz em poder escrever através de imagens a vida das meninas e desta família, utilizei a fotografia, que é uma linguagem universal em eternizar um pequeno universo e poder levar ao mundo é incrível.
O meu trabalho continua, mas agora precisa crescer ainda mais, busco apoio e incentivo, creio que com o tempo poderei apresentar diversos casos, não apenas como gêmeos siameses. Quero muito que as fotos saiam da tela do computador e vão para algo palpável, que é o papel de um livro e uma tela de um quadro. Preciso expor ainda mais o meu trabalho.
São apenas os primeiros passos, os primeiros passos...
