San Joaquin Kit Fox Kit Grabbing Mother's Tail

            Vulpes macrotis mutica. Kit 6-7 wk. old.  This is an endangered subspecies. As its range has been cut by agriculture and habitation, this carnivore species has adapted to urban life where its range abuts towns/cities.  These are wild animals--the photos were taken in a public place where the foxes see people on a daily basis and tolerate some close association.
