Shvetsov ASh-62 radial engine - a photo on Flickriver

            With the exception of a few underpowered radial engines, Soviet-built, piston-driven aircraft engines were historically copies of foreign-designed powerplants.

The Shvetsov ASh-62 engine was a copy of the American-built Wright "Cyclone" which had powered several planes during World War II and was readily available for study.

Two versions of the ASh-62 were produced. The 62R was used to power most Antonov An-2 aircraft. The 62M used to power the An-2M was similar but was fitted with a power take-off shaft to drive agricultural equipment.

The engine on display was donated by E.J. "Buzz" Gothard.
