Cow Low Croft, overlooking Castleton

            I took a little walk along the South edge of Winnats pass to get some light trails of the cars going down the hill.  Across to my right silhouetted on the horizon was this derelict Croft.  I could see it, but couldn’t work out how to get to it.  

Following the path towards Peveril castle lead to the head of a small ravine.  Jumping the wall at the head and continuing up the hill on a sheep trail, I arrived at the back of the Croft with the sun just rising through the branches of the long dead tree.

This was my first proper outing with the M6, I had my X-T3 with me, so took a few shots with that to get a feel for composition.  The best angle seemed to be from the West, looking over the old Croft yard with the tree at the back, Castleton in the valley and Lose Hill away in the distance.

Every now and again the sun would reappear from behind the clouds, bathing the scene in beautiful side light.  I cant remember what the exposure settings were, but it was on Kodak Portra 400, small aperture, probably at 1/500 secs, hand held.

I will definitely be going back here when it snows.  Magical, and more than happy with the final photo.  

Next time I’m thinking Portra 160, tripod and a cable release.
