Nottingham Midland February 1972 - a photo on Flickriver

Nottingham Midland February 1972

            I posted a shot of Brush Type 4/Class 47 1531 arriving at Midland station over 10 years ago but recently found this wider angle view taken slightly earlier. 

The large girder bridge in the background is the Great Central Railway bridge which used to carry the London Extension across the station. It has since been demolished although today the Nottingham trams cross on a new bridge built on the foundations of the old GC viaduct.

This visit was made shortly before I quit Blue Circle Cement at Barnstone in the Vale of Belvoir where I worked as a geologist for 2 years. 

I have fared better than 1531 which was built by Brush in 1963, became 47424 in 1974, was named Brontes of Haworth in 1988, was withdrawn in 1991 from Crewe depot and finally cut up in 1994 at Booth Roe of Rotherham.
