Great Central Railway Nottingham January 1963

With the splendid gallows semaphore signal pulled off now-preserved Thompson B1 4-6-0 61264 departs light engine southwards from Nottingham Victoria station. Allocated to Colwick (40E) at this time 61264 was withdrawn in 1965 from that shed but after lying around for several years it was transferred to Departmental Stock for use as a stationary boiler for train heating purposes. As number 29 it was fortunately sold to Woodham's and so lived to steam another day.

There is quite a lot of activity on this foggy day with Ivatt 4MT 2-6-0 43066 seen earlier on its van train in the siding on the right and another loco in the Up Main on the left.
