Slaithwaite Huddersfield 14th November 2018

            Taken looking north from the hillside off Varley Road this view of Slaithwaite shows how the town is nestled in the Colne valley where the original textile mills could use the river to power their machinery.

Once a major centre for wool and yarn, the mill on the right is home to Spectrum Yarns, one of a small number of remaining textiles businesses in the Colne Valley.

This classic West Riding scene, of course, includes the railway viaduct and a TransPennine Express Class 185 dmu can be seen crossing it on a Down train. Slaithwaite station is in amongst the trees to the left with the massive sandstone retaining wall just visible.
