Abandoned PRR right of way - a photo on Flickriver

            At one time both coal and coke trains were hauled out of this area behind PRR H8 class 2-8-0 locomotives, starting with H3's they worked up. The passenger engines were hauled by D class 4-4-0's with some atlantics thrown in in later years. eventuall this gave way to dieselization with alco RS's and EMD geeps. All of this is gone now but the bridge remains with it's tattered and very rusted handrails and a few decaying ties pointing north to Dunbar. The line lasted until Conrail and then was abandoned.

This was part of the South West Branch of the PRR which began in Greensburg, Pa and went south to Fairchance and a connection with the B&O. The main line was 44.52 miles in length with 3.14 miles of passing track and 50.55 miles of sidings. This information was taken from my copy of 'Record of Transportation Lines owned and operated by, and associated in interest with, The Pennsylvania Railroad Company. compiled from Official Data on file in Office of Chief Engineer, at Philadelphia for the year ending December 31st, 1934.
