            Cette femme parée de tous ses bijoux s'est assise sur le rebord d'une belle fenêtre sculptée d'un somptueux haveli dans la ville ancienne de Jaisalmer (état du Rajasthan, Inde).

La ville de Jaisalmer, oasis au cœur du désert du Thar, présente un exceptionnel ensemble de havelis, magnifiques petits palais construits dans un beau grès jaune, aux riches façades sculptées, datant pour la plupart du début du XIXe siècle . 
La richesse architecturale de Jaisalmer est due à son rôle d’étape caravanière sur la route commerciale entre l’Inde, le monde arabe et l’Afrique. Des denrées telles que la soie, l’indigo, le sucre, les fruits secs ou encore l’opium transitaient par cette oasis.
