Le monastère est situé au centre de la ville de Tongren (Rebkong en tibétain). Cette femme, durant la kora, c'est-à-dire durant le rite religieux consistant à faire le tour du monastère à plusieurs reprises en faisant tourner l'un après l'autre les innombrables rouleaux à prières, pousse un énorme tambour de bronze
