Café Le Sélect 69 - a photo on Flickriver

            My café drawings usually don’t have a story. I let the images speak for themselves. But, this one does have a story. I was drawing this very odd woman. At one point I was looking down at my drawing and adding some blacks. When I looked back up, in just a couple of seconds, this woman was on the floor lying flat on her back. Apparently, she was getting up to leave, grabbed her cane and lost her balance. The staff ran to help her and someone called the pompiers (the firemen who are, here in France, also medical emergency help). They arrived and tried to get her in the ambulance. She refused, and every time they tried to help her she kept screaming “Non! Non!” They finally got her out of the café and to one of the chairs on the terrace. They sat her there and kept talking to her, because they had to bring her to the hospital. She was a feisty old broad and kept refusing and screaming “NON!” I give the pompiers a lot of credit, but I could see their patience dwindling. I finally had to leave so I don’t know if they ever got her in the ambulance. They were with her for about an hour before I parted.
