1 Blackfriars Road - Sunset view

Sometimes a photo you take quite casually turns out better than the ones you set up and plan ahead for. And so it was with this image. The sun was setting on a glorious day in London and I was hurrying to set up my mini tripod on a deck that jutted into the Thames, hoping to shoot the sun on the high rise buildings in London's 'square mile' before it dipped below the horizon. As I was searching for a suitable spot for my tripod I looked to my right and saw the sun glinting off the bottom panels of 1 Blackfriars Road, that glorious new building with it's jutting out belly. I took a couple of quick shots and never really thought any more of it. I did manage some reasonable shots of my intended subjects but when I got this image home I could see I had something a bit special.

That's probably why I love photography so much - the unexpected shot that turns out so much better than we could ever have anticipated. We've all had them and what a joy when it works.
