Adder En Garde - a photo on Flickriver

Adder En Garde

            A beautiful male European Adder my daughter found - in a guarded posture. We found this beauty (Norway's only venomous snake) in a massive gun pit at the Møvik Gun Museum in Kristiansand. With the  smooth, sloping concrete edges all around and complete lack of water or significant shelter anywhere in the pit, I'm pretty sure this guy fell in and couldn't get out. I climbed in and after selfishly taking as many shots as I could, I got him out and returned him to the forest beyond.
