A Northern Shoveler taking flight from a desert lake

            Shot this bird in a water body in the vast desert spanning 3000+ Sq kms. There were  small lakes that dotted the landscape - mostly a leftover of the rainy season from a river that floods the land and dries up. And during that process of drying up over several months, the lakes become a magnet for a variety of birds, waders, Flamingo's and Ducks / Geese as well as a variety of raptors. This is one of the best places for raptors in India.

A pair of Imperial Eagles that we were tracking flew by a water body scaring a flock of ducks away. These Shovelers are migratory birds from Europe and stay in the country till end of March. Last season (and this season) the lakes are way too full in our region, so while they were seen, the places were difficult to access and hard to photograph.
