Happy Birthday, Jarvis Cocker! - a photo on Flickriver

            Dearest Jarvis Cocker,

My dearest most handsome cat.  I had to adopt you after we had the heinous Trump in power.  It was either that or jump out of the window.  But, actually, I thought you were a year older because I remembered the doomsday prophesy of November 2016...then I realized that I didn't adopt you until 2017 and so I maybe have one more year of life with you in the way that us humans chronologically measure time (flawed!).  So,that means, this is your 5th year and not your 6th.

Jarvis, you were named after the lead singer of Pulp who is a born performer and defines the saying "God doesn't make mistakes" but can be super shy too.  When friends come over, you're never quite sure about it.  Yet, as soon as they leave, you are a man about town/ladies man extraordinaire. 

Jarvis, you always stretch your entire body out between my legs in the middle of the night and I wake up sweating even in the winter.  You have claimed me and I will, sweaty and devoted, profess my love to you in turn.

There were many times I came home from protests, hungry and desperately sad and you crawled on my lap and reassured me that all was ok.  You didn't care for the news, though, and so I tried to imagine one moment in your blissful existence just to be adored without the immense feeling of impending doom. 

Dear God, in my next life, let me be a cat on the lap of a cat lady like me who always gives me treats and chin scratches and never forgets my  birthday. 

Happy Birthday, dear one.  The best of life on Earth is  mortal but I hope we have many years left together!
