We Grew Up on The Edge of a Cliff Never Knowing If We Would Suddenly Fall to Our Deaths

            Each day, we’d look out from our curvy green moss.
Is this the day, we’d think?
We will never get to grow up because, you see,
We are growing up on this cliff.  
We dare not breathe too heavy or blink or laugh.
The wind wrestles with us as we cling for dear life. 


Gasping in wonderment of the world around us.
Relishing in our blanket of delicious textures
But knowing we may never make it past this next day
Our enemy is gravity and 
Gravity doesn’t care if you carry a grudge.
Or even if you have a name.


One day, we'll fall flat on our faces on the forest floor 
and get stepped on by a deer or a careless human.
Who just won’t understand how much we appreciated what we had
When we were growing up on the edge of a cliff never knowing 
never knowing

When and if we would
       fall to our 
             deaths.
