Rashayla Marie Brown - a photo on Flickriver

I've been thinking quite a bit about the role of performance art in our current world and reality lately because it's an art I enjoy but you have to be there in person. It's a special kind of art that really takes into account the others present and the particular environment. I greatly enjoyed witnessing the shadow play and painting work of Rashayla Marie Brown, another talented Chicagoan, a couple of years ago and I am saddened to think about the possibility that this aspect of our world might not recover from what is happening. The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) in Chicago has a Fear no Art slogan and I think it's this way of embracing anything that can happen when humans gather in a creative context.
