The Kiss - a photo on Flickriver

The Kiss

Often, when I look at art, I try to photograph it in context with the human experience because I think that is what makes us see art differently, especially iconic pieces like this. This is an iconic mural on the East Side Gallery featuring Leonid Brezhnev and Erich Honecker locked in a kiss. I guess the true title from what I can find is "My God, Help Me to Survive This Deadly Love"

But, what I saw when I walked past it was more of a celebration and people from all different cultures, races, and religions enjoying the piece which may have a little bit of conflict and passion both in a single moment. One of my favorite moments was seeing this father kiss his son gleefully. It didn't seem to phase them or anyone else that this was a mural painting with two men kissing. What they gleaned from it was a sort of shared energy of the moment and they couldn't quite let go until they had a record of it. Also, the tilt of this makes it a little abstract and off kilter but such is life. I decided to embrace that aspect of it.

The truth is, more than ever in today's world of quarantine and isolation, it takes daring to kiss. So, make sure you really mean it.
