Here I Am

This excerpt taken from the novel Here I Am by Jonathan Safran Foer. I described it a bit more in my portrait of him at Printer's Row Literature Fest here:

Though the novel is quite a bit about Jewish vs. Asian culture, I thought it fit oddly with this moment. This is a moment on North side Chicago Chinatown right after the Happy Chinese New Year festivities. I loved the colors and the sense of mother and child but there was also a weird sense of time in winter and the sound, very loud and intense then suddenly vanishing. Life is so strange sometimes...and I like this quote so much, abstract but relatable. Like, I know what he meant but it is hard to describe, like telling a person who is blind about the color yellow....
