            Kasteel Renswoude

The first house probably dates from the end of the 14th century. Perhaps the name refers to a bailey that was situated around the castle.

In 1654 the fortified house, which was called 'Borchwal' in the 17th century, was demolished by order of Johan van Reede and replaced by the country house designed by Ghijsbert Theunisz. van Vianen and Peter Jansz. van Cooten. The current house in Dutch Classicist style was probably built on the medieval foundations.

The garden is a typical English landscape garden (Romantic period). These gardens are characterized by lush vegetation, but at every point in the garden you must have a view, to the center, or the castle. The provincial road, Renswoude - Veenendaal, was once built right through it. This makes it look like the garden consists of 2 parts. The staff residences are now also along this road, but belonged to this Heerlyckheid, as the castle and its lands were called.

Since 1754, by marriage in the Taets van Amerongen family, who still own the house, it has been placed in a foundation and divided it into various apartments, which were / are partly also inhabited by family members.
