Navy Club, The South Quay - Maryport

            This is where I spent the first six years of my life. My Mother & Father ran this working men's club as steward and stewardess, as that is what they did in their days.

You could only get to the club via a small wooded foot bridge at that time. So when we finally moved out, the removal van had to go another 2 miles around to get to us. Then it could not fit under the railway bridge, so they had to let the tires down.

But that was not the end of the matter, they could not get the furniture out of the front door, so they had to take the windows out. And all this before a 200 mile journey up to Cheshire. 

My Mum spent the rest of her life in Cheshire, but Maryport was always her true home and in some ways it's mine. 

Although I was of a such a young age, I still remember little bits my days there. My brother who is 4 years older than me, told me the story of the move out as I had no idea the trouble they had.
