Doppelganger Building - a photo on Flickriver

A few people have asked in comments how do I do the Mirror images?

I guess there are loads of different ways but here is what I do.

First process the photo you're going to use and do everything that needs doing to complete the image. i.e cloning out things or adding light source.

I do all this in Lightroom before I send the image to photoshop. Here I duplicate the image, so that you now have 2 of the same images on different layers. On either one of the images, use the Transform tool to flip the image Horizontally.

I then open another canvas file twice the size of my original photo and just drag & drop both images onto that canvas and join them together. Make sure you align them perfect by zooming into the join.

Now if you have signs in your photo that you want to read the correct way on both sides of the image? Then this takes a little more time and thought.

And you can see here even the shop windows read the correct way as do the signs.

So the sign that reads the correct way, I use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to draw around the sign and then right click Layer via Copy, this will put that small part of the image on its own layer.

I would then drag it over to the sign that reads backwards and position it over the sign using the Transform Skew tool. This takes a little practise, when you have it perfect merge the two layers.

As I say, there maybe easy ways of doing it, this is just how I do it. Fortunately this image had no signs......

PS, and this I feel is important, have in your mind already when you take the shot, that you're going to make a Mirror Image. Again if you look at the link above i took the photo only getting in half of the yellow car, as I knew I was going to mirror the image.
