葉行者 ( 水雉 ) - a photo on Flickriver

            水雉 Pheasant-tailed Jacana【學名：Hydrophasianus chirurgus】鴴形目 / 水雉科 /  繁殖羽型態。別名：菱角鳥、鳳尾水雉、雉尾水雉。因繁殖羽色亮麗，加上長羽在水面行走或飛翔時飄逸美麗，而有「凌波仙子」美稱；也因為水雉喜愛活動在有浮葉植物的地區，而有「葉行者」的稱號。

雌雄同色，雌鳥體型略大於雄鳥，屬一妻多夫的鳥類，通常一窩四顆蛋左右 ( 古銅色，不對稱菱形 )，由雄鳥負責孵蛋育雛。

水稚科的鳥類，全世界共八種，而臺灣就存在其中一種；臺灣有著大部份留鳥的水雉族群和一些較少的過境個體，也由於之前曾數量銳減到瀕危，被列為二級保育的鳥種；多虧了民間保育團體組成水雉復育委員會，從2000年的4隻，增加到2004年46隻，到2008年已增加到200隻以上，並逐漸擴散到保護區之外，真的是令人感到欣慰。

而水雉於民國86年，被選為台南縣縣鳥，在縣市合併後，更於103年正式成為台南市鳥。
