Sans Pareil - a photo on Flickriver

Sans Pareil

            ...at the National Railway Museum, Shildon.

This replica Sans Pareil is a working locomotive, built in 1979 by apprentices at British Rail's Shildon workshop. It was first steamed for the one-hundred-and-fiftieth anniversary of the 1829 Rainhill trials, at which the original Sans Pareil competed (although more powerful, it proved not to have the speed of Stephenson's Rocket).
