Fountain of the Moor - a photo on Flickriver

            The Fontana del Moro is at the south end of Piazza Navona. 

This is one of the most popular public spaces for both tourists and locals in Rome; there is usually a lot of people here in the late afternoon and evening. It has been a public square since the 15th Century. You can see from its shape how this was space was once the arena of the 1st Century AD Stadium of Domitian.

The piazza has three fountains. The Fontana del Moro is at the southern end. The central figure is by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.  It is said to represent a Moor, but some say it is actually the Roman sea god Neptune. The statues today are replicas, the original statues have been moved to the Galleria Borghese.

In the middle distance is the Obelisk of Domitian, the centrepiece of Bernini's Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers).
