Rome 2019 - a photo on Flickriver

Rome 2019

            View from Janiculum Hill, near San Pietro di Montorio.
(I have identified some landmarks on the photo. You need to be on PC and move your mouse across the photo to see them.)


Starting from the left, the major sights that I could identify were:-
- The Trinità dei Monti Church (is the large white building with two towers in the distance at far left). It is at the top of the Spanish Steps; you can just make out the obelisk in front of the church.
- Just to the right, (in the middle distance) is Sant Ivo alla Sapienza with the spiral shaped lantern on its dome.
- The Palazzo Montecitorio (the brown building with the large clock on top) is immediately to its right. The Chamber of Deputies, Italy's Parliament, sits here.
- The Pantheon is the brown brick building with the large low rise dome.
- The seldom seen exterior of Sant' Ignazio di Loyola's dome sits next to, and slightly to the right of, the Pantheon.
- The Palazzo del Quirinale is the large (off-white) building right at the center of the photo. It is the residence of the President of Italy, and sits atop the highest of Rome's seven hills.
- In the middle distance, in front of the Quirinale, is the dome of San Carlo ai Catinari; also known as Santi Biagio e Carlo ai Catinari ("Saints Blaise and Charles in Catinari") 
- The Chiesa del Gesu, the mother church of the Jesuit order, is just to the right. The top of its front facade and dome is visible.
- On left third of the photo is Trajan's Forum. The domes of Santa Maria di Loreto and Santissimo Nome di Maria are visible. Just to the right of the domes is Trajan's Column.
- The Vittorio Emanuele II Monument, aka the Altare della Patria ("Altar of the Fatherland") is the large white building dominating this part of Rome.
- Immediately to its right is the Basilica of Santa Maria in Ara Coeli (with its plain unadorned facade).
- Behind and slightly to the right, you can see the twin domes and bell tower of Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore in the distance.
