Begegnung: Frepoli & Böhm - a photo on Flickriver

Das Staatliche Museum Ägyptischer Kunst in München gehört neben den Sammlungen in Berlin (Ägyptisches Museum) und in Hildesheim (Roemer- und Pelizaeus-Museum) zu den bedeutendsten in Deutschland. Es zeigt Exponate aus allen Epochen des Alten Ägyptens bis in die koptische (christliche) Zeit, sowie einige Ausstellungsstücke aus benachbarten Kulturen in Nubien, Assyrien und Babylonien.

Es befindet sich zusammen mit der Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film im Kunstareal München in einem Gebäude des Architekten Peter Böhm.

Gewonnen hat den Wettbewerb Peter Böhm, der aus einer in Deutschland berühmten Architektenfamilie stammt: Der Großvater Dominikus war ebenso wie der Vater Gottfried Böhm ein bekannter Kirchenbauer, die Mutter Elisabeth war Architektin, die Brüder Paul und Stephan sind Architekten.

Der Museumsneubau liegt in der Maxvorstadt inmitten des Kunstareals, das seit einigen Jahren als Marke aufgebaut wird, vergleichbar dem Kunstquartier in Wien oder der Museumsinsel in Berlin. Im Gegensatz zu diesen beiden liegen in dem gedachten Rechteck des Kunstareals jedoch nicht nur Museen – Kunstmuseen ebenso wie naturwissenschaftliche Sammlungen – , sondern zahlreiche Hochschulen, Schulen und andere Bildungseinrichtungen, kulturelle Institutionen, Galerien und – ganz entscheidend – auch gewachsene Wohnquartiere. Im Kunstareal bewegen sich also nicht nur Museumsbesucher, hier leben, lernen, studieren und arbeiten auch Tausende von Menschen. Das Kunstareal wird also nicht nur überwiegend von Touristen besucht, sondern ist ein natürlich gewachsenes Münchner Quartier.

Dialoge mit moderner und zeitgenössischer Kunst sind seit Jahrzehnten ein Anliegen des Ägyptischen Museums. Die Skulpturen von Isolde Frepoli fügen sich in idealer Weise in dieses Programm. Als ob sie für diesen Ort geschaffen wären, stehen ihre Skulpturen inmitten der altägyptischen Kunst.
