Los Puentes (Forth Road y Queensferry Crossing)

            El puente Forth Road se empezó a construir en 1958 y se inauguró en 1964. Con 47.000 toneladas de acero y 50.000 kilómetros de cable, fue el mayor puente colgante de Europa de su época y el puente con el vano más largo del Reino Unido durante tres décadas. La autopista que soporta reemplazó a los populares ferries que cruzaban el fiordo Forth (más de un millón y medio de personas usaban el ferry cada año antes de la inauguración del puente). El Forth Road fue cerrado al tráfico el 4 de diciembre de 2015 por el deteriorado estado de su estructura, y fue reabierto el 23 de diciembre para peatones, ciclistas y vehículos, excepto los vehículos pesados.
El Queensferry Crossing se encuentra en construcción desde 2011. Su inauguración está proyectada para mayo de 2017. Es un puente atirantado de 2,7 kilómetros que llevará una autopista de dos carriles para cada sentido. Se ideó como reemplazo del puente Forth Road, que tenía una vida útil planificada de 120 años, pero ha perdido hasta un 10% de su resistencia por la corrosión y porque su capacidad fue excedida durante años. La importancia del cruce obligó a iniciar la construcción de un nuevo puente, que fue bautizado por el voto público como Queensferry Crossing.
